The Marble Planter takes a simple premise and commits to it fully. A white wash is applied to the raw terracotta surface in long, diagonal strokes — each pass of the brush moving at a consistent angle across the curve of the pot, from lower left to upper right. The strokes are not blended. They are left as made: visible, directional, carrying the speed and pressure of the hand that applied them.

Where the brush moves quickly, the white is thin and the terracotta burns through warmly beneath. Where it slows or doubles back, the wash builds to an opaque, chalky pale. The diagonal pattern is consistent across the body but never mechanical — the texture of the clay surface catches the bristles unevenly, leaving fine striations within each stroke that add a further layer of detail. In strong sunlight, as photographed here, the surface has an almost mineral quality — the white reading closer to stone dust than paint.

The form underneath is clean and considered. A rounded, tapered body with a broad, stable base and a smooth, open rim. No handles, no applied detail — the surface treatment is the only gesture, and it is enough. The interior is left as raw terracotta.

This is a pot that works through repetition and light. A single piece is quiet. A group of three — at different heights, in dappled shade or morning sun — creates a composition that shifts through the day as the diagonal marks catch and release the light at different angles.

Care — Indoor or covered outdoor with no direct exposure to rain.  Surface will develop patina naturally with use and weather. Wipe with a dry cloth. Avoid abrasive cleaning to preserve the brushwork.
