The Dhuli Rope Handle Planter (Sanskrit – earth washed pale, sun faded lightly worn) is a hand-thrown terracotta pot finished with a loose white wash, applied by brush directly onto the raw clay surface. The wash is not even. It moves with the gesture of the hand — heavier in some areas, barely present in others — leaving the warm terracotta visible in broad sweeps beneath. The effect is of something sun-bleached and unhurried, a surface that looks as though it has already lived outdoors for a season.
The brushwork is horizontal in direction, following the curve of the form, which gives the finish a sense of quiet rhythm across the body. Where the white sits thicker, it softens the terracotta to a pale blush. Where it is thin or absent, the clay glows a deep, warm orange. The two tones move into each other without a clear boundary — the pot reads as a single, settled colour from a distance, and reveals its layering only up close.
The form is full and rounded — wider at the shoulder, narrowing gently toward the base. The rim is open and smooth. Cut-through handles sit at either side, each wrapped tightly with natural jute cord, providing a functional grip while adding a material contrast to the washed surface. The jute is left in its natural state, undyed, its rough texture a deliberate counterpoint to the soft, pale body of the pot.
Photographed here in dappled morning light, the Dhuli Planter shows how the surface shifts across the day — the white wash picking up cooler tones in shade, the terracotta warming in direct sun. It is a pot that responds to its environment rather than remaining fixed within it.
